Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam's Speech

In January 2010, we got a never-dreamt-before opportunity to attend a speech of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the honurable ex-president of India, and popularly known as Missile Man of India.

The speech was organised by SRKNEC College as a part of their Technovision festival; and my sister-in-law who studies there managed to get us VIP Pass. It was a wonderfil experience to listen to this great son of soil.

लग्न ठरण्याअगोदर मी व (होणारी) सौ. भेटलो होतो.. उद्देश हा की जरा एकमेकांना समजून घ्यावं.
सुरवातीला Hobbies काय, पुस्तकं वाचता का असे थोडे Harmless प्रश्न विचारून झाल्यावर मी जरा भीत-भीतच विचारले.. "स्वयंपाक कितपत येतो?" आज-काल असा प्रश्न विचारणं जरा प्रतिगामी समजलं जातं, पण मी सलग ४-५ वर्षं मेसचं जेवण जेऊनशान पुरता पकलो होतो, त्यामुळे निदान या बाबतीत तरी रिस्क घ्यायची तयारी नव्हती.

तिनं बेधडक "सगळं येतं" असं सांगितल्यावर तर अजूनच दचकलो..

गणेश चतुर्थी भारतात अनेक ठिकाणी साजरी केली जाते; पण महाराष्ट्र व गोवा इथल्या गणेशोत्सवाची शान काही निराळीच आहे. घरोघरच्या गणेश मुर्त्या तर देखण्या असतातच, पण प्रत्येक शहरातल्या चौका-चौकातील सार्वजनिक गणेश मंडळांच्या प्रचंड गणेश मुर्त्या व आरास पाहिली कि गणेशोत्सवाची खरी मजा येते.

Our ancestral home

We live in Ponda (फोंडा) Goa, my grandfather lived in तळकट near Sawantwadi-Maharashtra; but our ancestral home, where our great-grandparents lived, is at गुळदुवे.

I visited this home for the first time in life at the age of 29.. and immediately fell in love with it. It has everything you could expect to find in any typical house in Konkan: countless rooms interconnected through myriad passages, huge almirahs made of teakwood, झोपाळा, पाट and... a giant banyan tree almost a century old.

I wish I had visited this place earlier, and I hope I visit it more often in future.

People go crazy about beaches in Goa, but I personally like the ones in Konkan. They are so much clean and untarnished by the people.

My Hibiscus Garden

We have quite a variety of Hibiscus flowers in our garden. They come in a wide range of colours and shades. This happens to be one of my favourite flowers, perhaps because it blooms almost through-out the year.

I am in search of the person who named it as shoe flower... Hmph!
